Propose

The National Excavator Operator Competition has been a stable of the New Zealand construction industry for more than 25 years and as long-time major sponsor, CablePrice, supplies each region with a number of Hitachi excavators for their local rounds along with machines for the National finals

Competitors

On average, each year more than 150 competitors from around the country compete at regional events, all with the eye on making it through to the National finals, held in the Manawatu each March.

The competition is organised by national association Civil Contractors New Zealand (CCNZ), with regional offices managing their own regional event.

National Excavator Operator Competition kick off in June at the National Fieldays, Mystery Creek, Hamilton followed by another 9 regional events around the country.

Real world skills

The competition feature tasks such as tests of ‘real-world’ skills, for example, traversing a trench or lifting and relocating a manhole cover. They can also include crowd-pleasing tests of precision such as uncorking a champagne bottle using an excavator bucket’s teeth or slam dunking a basketball into a two-storey concrete pipe
